Frequently Asked Questions

Below are a few of the most frequently asked questions I get from my clients. Should you have any questions not answered here, don't hesitate to contact me at info@mariakellyfashion.com

Most of what you see at the stores are always for the petite people. What about the rest of us? Could you kindly advise what would look good for a person that's 5'8'' with dress size 16?

When it comes to the taller person there are a few key points that you need to take into account. You will be dressing in the Grand Scale, now that does not mean you are grand due to your weight it mainly comes from your height. The following are some tips I give my Grand Scale clients:

  • Contrasts and colour breaks are good as it helps take some of the height from you
  • You can wear turn-ups on trousers
  • You can wear flared trousers and only boot cut jeans as this will help balance your body. Try Oasis for jeans as they do long legs. I would also suggest buying a dark indigo pair as they will help make you look slimmer and we all love when that happens!
  • Go for bigger bolder patterns, as if you purchase a top with small floral print it will be too fussy and there will be too much going on in your top
  • Long sweeping coats look good on you as you have the height to pull them off
  • Wear fabrics that are bulky
  • Over-sized accessories work well for you

Avoid

  • Finer fabrics unless worn layered
  • Too clingy clothes
  • Skirts that are too full as this can emphasize your hips, thighs and make you look larger
  • Mono dressing (this is dressing in the same colour head to toe)
  • Be careful with patterned tights as if you are concerned about your calves or thighs being larger then you would prefer; this will make them twice as bad
  • Stick with plain tights, the darker the more slimming
